Step beyond the familiar streets of Hoi An and spend a memorable day discovering the town through its markets, waterways, food and traditional crafts.
This Hoi An basket boat cooking class experience begins at Hoi An Market, where your FAIVO guide will introduce you to the colourful ingredients and everyday flavours that form part of local Vietnamese cooking. Walking through the busy market offers a glimpse into daily life in Hoi An before the journey continues into the peaceful countryside of Cam Thanh.
At Bay Mau Coconut Forest, trade the city streets for narrow waterways shaded by water coconut palms. Climb into a traditional round basket boat and travel through the forest with a local boat operator, taking in the scenery and learning more about the riverside communities that have lived alongside these waterways for generations.
After the basket boat experience, it’s time to discover Vietnamese cuisine from the kitchen rather than the dining table. During a hands-on Hoi An cooking class, a local instructor will guide you through the preparation of several Vietnamese dishes using fresh ingredients and traditional techniques. Once the cooking is complete, sit down together and enjoy the meal you have helped prepare.
The experience continues after lunch with a Hoi An lantern making class, connecting you with one of the town’s most recognisable crafts. With guidance from a local artisan, learn how a traditional lantern is carefully assembled and create one of your own. At the end of the workshop, each guest receives their handmade lantern to take home as a personal souvenir of Hoi An.
A FAIVO guide accompanies you throughout the journey, while vehicle transfers between the different experiences make the day comfortable and easy to enjoy.
Bringing together a local market, the coconut waterways of Cam Thanh, Vietnamese cooking and traditional lantern making, this experience is ideal for travellers who want to do more than simply see Hoi An. It offers a relaxed and hands-on way to connect with the people, flavours, traditions and everyday life that give the town its character.
